Improve your in vitro fertilization (IVF) patient success rates with acupuncture. Learn the advanced skills needed to work with this complex patient population from Lee Hullender Rubin, DAOM, LAc, FABORM, a dynamic and interactive speaker. In this pragmatic workshop, acupuncturists will learn methods to effectively and safely integrate acupuncture into an IVF cycle. By the end of this course, you will understand the risks associated with IVF and confidently manage adjuvant acupuncture treatment with assisted reproductive therapies like IVF or intra-uterine insemination (IUI). The course content is based on her extensive experience managing an acupuncture program at an IVF clinic, as well as her own research. Dr. Hullender Rubin is clinician and researcher who will present an evidence-informed, comprehensive course describing how to integrate TCM-based acupuncture into an IVF or IUI treatment plan.
Day 1 is a brief overview of the biomedical and Chinese medicine perspectives on reproduction. Day 2 describes specific strategies to effectively incorporate acupuncture into an ART cycle based on the fundamental concepts learned in Day 1.
By the end of the course, you will:
1. Understand the assisted reproduction process, including a thorough overview of the various types of IVF, IUIs, and basic additional services offered at a modern fertility clinic, and a brief review of reproductive endocrinology
2. Review TCM reproductive physiology, the four phases of the female menstrual cycle, how TCM interprets ART, common TCM diagnoses, and acupuncture treatment principles
3. Interpret Basal Body Temperature charts in relation to the menstrual cycle’s four phases and identify key abnormalities to aid in TCM diagnosis
4. Become familiar with the current clinically relevant research literature on the effectiveness, risks, and safety of adjuvant acupuncture and assisted reproduction.
5. Design a treatment plan to support an ART cycle with relevant treatment principles and methods, including acupuncture, electro acupuncture, and moxibustion.
6. Identify risks unique to the various types of IVF and IUIs and appropriate treatment adjustment.
